Motorcycles for Girls

by Cara

Hi, and i know by asking this I'm already wearing a sign that says motorcycle newbee, but I was just wondering that since I'm pretty small (5'2-5'3) and rather on the thin-ish, what motorcycle type or brand will be best suited for me?

Newbie Girl's Bike
by: Old Guy

I suggest you buy something inexpensive to practice on. Most people drop their bikes when turning at slow speeds while they are learning.
The Honda Rebel is small and inexpensive to buy used. It is a bit underpowered for highway use, though. I have heard the Ninja 250 is a good starter bike. I own a Suzuki Savage 650. Good enough to cruise at 65 but not a long distance bike. Great around town and highway trips less than an hour, for me. Single cylinder vibrates a bit, but has reliable belt drive and bullet proof engine. Try them all on just like clothes. One will catch your eye and will feel just right. Buy the bike you like. Use the internet for research and you will come to see the strengths and weaknesses of all bikes. Don't be swayed by do-gooders trying to talk you into something you can't handle. Buy used, learn well, and then you will know what you want for your perfect ride.

Not So Tall

Hi Cara, I am also not very big. I ride a Gsxr-750 but only years after gaining my own confidence in my ability, I have a friend fairly new to the sport also short and she loves her Kawi EX 500. My best advice would be go to the local dealers and sit on as many bikes as you can, go home think about it, then do it again, until one day the bike that feels the best to you will stand out and that will be all you can think about till it's yours. I do strongly advise start small and as your ability and confidence grow so do your options in what you ride.
