Motorcycle Windshield

by Debbie
(Panama City Beach, FL)

Where should the top of windshield fall in my line of vision? It sits right in the center and I need to either have it cut lower, or look for a taller one! I am only 5'4" and have a HD 1200 XL Low, everything is comfortable but my vision line with the windshield on!

Thanks,

Debbie

Also have a 1200L. I thought my windshield also was to high, but when I stopped at the dealership they told me to sit up straight and never look thru the windshield, it is for wind - rain protection and always look over. Now I do look over the windshield. It is level with my eyes. Hope this helps. It took a little adjustment. Mine is a quick release and can be adjusted down a little.

I was talking to a guy the other day at a rally and he had a really nice bike, I can't remember what it was other then a Harley but, I noticed his windshield was very tall. He was complaining about it. He said in the rain, (it was raining earlier that day), it made it nearly impossible to see with his full face helmet and the rain on the windshield. He said he was getting it cut down.

I thought of you then and thought I should share with you.

Good Luck

Thanks, Ladies!

Thank you for your input! I will make the two hour ride to my nearest HD (want to have other things done as well) and see if they can recommend cutting it down or a different windshield. As for riding in hail . . . I think it'd be a great time for a diet pepsi until that mess subsides!

Windshield Height
by: Barb

Hi Ladies,

I've got a windshield on my sidecar bike that is also right where you have described. I prefer it to be about 1 1/2" lower, the reason being that the wind-flow is diverted by the windshield, and you can still see the road without looking through a piece of rain-covered plastic. So I'll be moving mine lower.

Having said that, I know riders who have gotten caught in hail and have loved having a big windshield in front of them to duck behind....personally, I'd rather just not ride in hail. Ever!

In my factory manual for my Triumph it states that a windshield should be 2" below the rider's eyes when seated in a relaxed riding position, whatever that may be, so, for whatever it's worth, there it is....

I have a Harley Sportster 1200 custom and my windshield sounds like the same as yours. It falls right in the middle of my vision. I look above it for looking far ahead and through it toward the front of me for pot holes and stuff. Look in the catalog of Harley stuff, I'm sure they'll have what you need. Mine did take a while to get used to but I did... I still deal with some glare now though.
