Most Stolen Bikes in 2011...

by Dar
(R.I.)

I just read in the Dec '12 issue of American Motorcyclist that these are the top motorcycles stolen in 2011: Honda (11,014), Yamaha (8,880) Suzuki (7,281), Kawasaki (5,009) and lastly, Harley-Davidson (3,120). Hmmmm, what does that say about H-D Bikes, if anything at all? I'll leave you to ponder that.

Harley Owners Make Sure Their Bikes are Secure
by: Sharon

I have to agree with the others; we Harley owners go to great lengths to ensure our bikes are secure. As a minimum I lock my forks, and like so many others noted, we try to sit near a window to watch the bikes when possible. I also use the fork locks depending on where the bike is stored for the night ... or if in a questionable location. We tend to park under the lights at stores and malls, and the bikes are in the garage at home when not in use.

HD security system
by: Shelly

My HD is equiped with a security system like most HS's, its heavy and I always lock my forks. We always park the bikes where we can see them and we travel armed!

never leave them where you can't see them
by: Sassy2731

I know from experience that Harley riders never leave their HD's where they cannot see them...

Stolen bikes
by: Anonymous

My opinion only, just a thought! H.D. Bikes are expensive, most add their own unique flavor which is expensive!! I know my husband and I are inclined to not leave our bikes out of sight!! Maybe that has a bit to do with less of them being stolen!!

Hmmmmmm
by: Pam

I read the same article. The motorcycles they picture are the sport bikes for Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki. The majority of those bikes, two guys could easily pick up and toss into the back of a truck and drive away very quickly. The majority of Harleys are way to heavy for just two guys to pick up and toss into the back of a truck. Also, when you see a Harley's in a parking lot, there are several, it is rare to see just one HD. Also, with Hollywood making all those movies about stunt riding on the crotch rockets, the younger crowd wants to do the same things. Just my thoughts, what are yours?
