Most Boot for My Buck

by Donna
(Red Bank, NJ, USA)

Hi all, I am beginning my first season on my Ninja 250. I am enrolled in a motorcycle safety course at the local community college and they require that I have boots when I take the course. I've been looking online and I was wondering if anyone had tips for getting the best boots for the money. Thanks!!! Donna

Riding Boots
by: MT MC Gal

If I were you I would look into riding boots that are designed especially for riding in. It would depend on what look you want but I have a pair of Alpinestars touring/street riding boots. They are breathable, but water resistant and have some gore-tex in them so they are good for cold or warm weather. I have had these for 5 years now and I ride a lot. Plus I can walk in them when I stop because they don't weigh a ton and they have a zipper to get on and off quickly. I would look around for a sale on them, because they are not cheap, but are well worth the money. I am sure I will be wearing them for many years to come.

Happy riding.

Whatever's in the Closet
by: Sandra

I, too, wore a pair of hiking boots for the class. I had purchased a "sharp" pair of black leather boots, very nice to look at, and I CAN ride in them. But once I realized what was at stake with a foot slip in loose gravel or oily surfaces, I headed for the internet to read up on a FUNCTIONAL biker boot. I settled on Milwaukee Leather's web-site and waited for a sale in a boot I liked. During that time, I changed my attitude considerably on what would look "good" on my foot, in comparison to what that boot needed to do for me - keep my feet warm and dry, provide supreme traction on all surfaces, hold up to wear and tear if heaven forbid, I have an accident. I debated long and hard on the inside zipper, and opted for the true lace-ups.

Although I do love the look of my workhorse boots, I believe I would now opt for the zipper to speed up putting those babies on and kicking them off. I'm still not used to the weight of this functional boot, as I wear open toe sandals during the work week, but I have come to really appreciate the value of buying a MOTORCYCLE boot instead of a boot I can wear on my motorcycle.

Now, on with the hunt for reinforced riding jeans! I have a pair of Harley Davidson brand jeans, which is a MUCH better quality denim, but I still want some "Draggin" Jeans" or Tourmasters, and yes, I'm still fighting with style versus functionality and protection...

Try "River Road" boots. My lace ups were about $70.
Good sole, good quality.

Hey!! The cheap boots at Wal-mart have done me well. I bought over the ankle steel toed boots brahma boots. I wear them everyday to work too. Around $30 and they last me a year.

Boots

For the class I wore my over the ankle Timberline hiking boots. I had them in the closet. Some people I know bought cheap boots at Walmart. Once I knew I was going to continue riding, I shopped around for real motorcycle boots with oil resistant soles.

Boots

Since I didn't know if riding was truly for me, I wore a pair of hiking boots that I wear during the winter months. Now I have a pair of the Harley Hennie boots which are waterproof and very comfy. I also got them on sale for 50% off.

Get Good Boots

If you do some research online, you'll probably see a boot that catches your eye. Just make sure they're motorcycle boots and not fashion boots. You may pay a little more, but you'll have them a long time. I have zippers on my boots - that way I don't have to lace them up every time. They are black and simple (Harley-Davidson brand, style Alysa, $112, purchased from onlineshoes.com), but they are the most comfortable thing I've ever worn! May not be your style, but it's a place to start looking!
