Lowering the Forks On My Bike

by Laura
(Pennsylvania)

I recently put a lowering kit on my Vulcan 500, I am 5'1" so now I am able to touch the ground with both feet :) I have been thinking that if you lower the back end shouldn't you lower the front? If anyone has had this issue, please let me know what you did and if you lowered the forks, did it make a difference in turning?

Fork Lowering
by: Jacee

I had my GSXR lowered by a professional and, yes, he said it was necessary to lower both front and back in order for the bike to turn and operate correctly and safely. But he didn't "lower" the forks - they had to be cut off.

So a lowering kit on the rear and cut the forks the appropriate amount on the front. Then he adjusted the suspension just for my weight. He told me that my bike should never be ridden by anyone heavier than me as they could easily bottom out the suspension and blow the fork seals.

Suits me fine! She's MY baby. I don't want anyone riding her but me!
