Liability Question

I took my motorcycle to a repair shop to have the front wheel replaced. After replacing the wheel, the mechanic took it for a test ride. While going over a railroad track the front end came off so now my bike is in two pieces. Since it was the mechanic that was riding the bike at the time, am I still responsible for the repair?

Whose Responsibilty

Hey mate, you are definitely NOT responsible for the repair. What did you sign when you left the bike at the shop? If it's a legitimate business (not a friend of a friend or something), the guys insurance should cover the cost of all repairs. The smartest thing for you to do would be contact your insurance company - tell them the story, and DO NOT remove your bike from the premises until your insurance company has had a look. If you take it away from the premises, the mechanic could say that you didn't want it repaired, or any number of things. Whatever you do, don't let them intimidate you into paying for this, make sure you get proper legal assistance.
