Leather Coats

by Randall
(Blacksburg, VA)

WE were riding over the weekend and were caught in a rain storm. We did not have rain gear (but will be getting some soon), our leather chaps and coats were soaked. I have noticed as they are drying that there are areas on one of the coats that have white crystalized spots on them. Would you happen to know what would have caused this and how to repair the leather.

Treating/Conditioning Your Leathers
by: Brian

I had a custom leather shop for nigh on to 10 years... that "White" stain is just the minerals or whatever that was in the rain/water...

Shouldn't be any big deal... the ONLY conditioner I use on leather any more is SKIDMORE'S leather cream

It's made in Laramie Wyoming... available at a lot of tack shops... the smart one's anyway...

You could wash the leather with saddle soap first, not really necessary... but you HAVE to completely rinse out the soap... it's caustic... then, before the leather is completely dry, start working in the Skidmore's, with your fingertips... The best stuff made...
