LANE SPLITTING

by Stephanie

What is lane splitting, does it mean 2 bikers are side by side in the same lane? And how are you able to go 5-15mph faster if traffic is backed up?

Lane splitting is when traffic is stalled or stopped and you travel between the cars to advance on the road toward your destination. It can be quite dangerous if car drivers want to impede your progress by opening their doors or hugging the lines on the lane. Lane splitting is illegal in most states. The only state that allows it for sure is Californis. If this is legal in your state, please be very careful. Diane

Lane splitting is when you go between two vehicles, riding on the line between the two lanes. It is illegal in most places. It is legal in California. It is also extremely dangerous because you are so close to two big vehicles. The possibility of one of those big vehicles moving just slightly towards you and bumping a mirror or something is just too great. Yes, it helps get a motorcyclist get through crawling traffic faster, but it is very risky.
