Just Getting Started

by Kim
(Albuquerque)

Just bought a Ninja 250, beautiful blue. Taking motorcycle safety course June.
I am 50 years old. My husband rides, and I am so excited to ride with him. However,
I will be in control of my own bike. Cannot wait. Just playing with it in the parking lot is so much fun!

59 yrs old and looking to ride again.

Currently looking for a nice Trike - around 1100cc would be good. I'm not a small woman and looking for a nice comfortable ride. I'm so looking forward to nice long rides here in south Florida!

I am 53... just decided to do the 4 day learning course and I am going to buy my fist bike. Excited but also terrified. Am I doing the right thing... am I crazy to want this? I love reading what women write on this site. Very inspiring. I hoep to be riding on my own by the end of July.

Excellent choice!

When I mentored my Nephew on a mint, low-mileage '95 Ninja 250, I stored it at my house and he would come down on weekends. Therefore I got to ride it too. I've been riding on the street legally since '77 (I'm 54) and although I've owned many bikes and currently have 7 or 8 running out of 12, in all sizes between 55cc and a 1000cc superbike, that little Ninja was one of the most fun bikes I've ever ridden, and I could corner it better than just about anything else.

What makes it a new rider friendly bike is most of the power is > 5000 rpm. It can carry heavier people, I'm very heavy and could still easily get to 80 on the freeway with more throttle left over, but for those sustained speeds you need to run the engine betwee 6000-9000 rpm.

This is a bike you can really master all riding skills with...don't even think about "upgrading" until you've ridden several thousand miles. Don't let initial comfort and familiarity beguille you into moving up too soon!

Have fun and ride safe!

Oh Yea!

Just love it when we "more mature" ladies start riding. I started last year, have put on almost 6500 miles since then and am having a ball! I am 52!

Ninja 250

Was also my first bike, I was 58 when I decieded ride. So great choice for a starter bike, Light easy to handle, very forgiving. Don't let anyone tell it won't keep up either...just takes it a little longer to get there (ha ha) but it will 90 all day. Little lite for hiway or windy days but still manageable and it will make you a better rider in the end.
Good luck and great riding
