Jacket for Very Thin Person

by Shary
(Oceanside, CA)

I've finally begun to pursue a lifelong dream of getting into motorcycles, and while I'm basically squared away with gear and a good beginner's bike and pointers for learning to ride, there is one thing I see as a potential issue. It's that I can't find a jacket that really fits me. I'm really thin (like a size 2) and kind of lanky. Most the time I have to special order regular tops online in like size xsmall-long. My arms are especially lengthy. For now I settled on a jacket that's good enough, but once I build up in confidence and performance I know I'm going to want something more serious. Somewhat related and perhaps even more importantly is how my pelvic bones seem to be left exposed, and it's not the pants not being high enough, (besides I wouldn't like them up on my belly button,) but I think it's that the jacket length isn't what I need. When I was very first on a bike it was a friend's dirt bike, and I had a spill on the cement that proved to me I was well enough protected except for my hip bones. I've had a couple kids, and like I said, I'm boney, so they really just stick out. I searched the motorcycle store near me for some kind of protective piece/belt and there came up short.

Is there anything you could recommend for my issues?

Thank you! And sorry for being so long winded.

Try a Suit
by: Ashley-Sydney Australia

Custom jackets are a great idea. Another suggestion is getting a leather suit. I know it may sound weird but they can look wicked and are THE best protection (that's what racers wear), that would be your safest option. Not so safe but still better than nothing are the Kevlar under shirts which are becoming quite popular, NEDS are the brand I know of but I'm sure there are others. Speak to a few custom leather shops and make sure you're safe. If it only saves you once, it's been worth the time and money.

Jacket

You should try Fox Creek Leather - www.foxcreekleather.com. I am 5'1" and 115, you put in your measurements to order a jacket, or do as I did, I called them directly and they helped me get the right size. I had purchased 2 jackets from an online store, I had to send them back because the arms were to long.

Fox Creek Leather is American Made and they have a 100% guarantee. I also ordered my chaps from them and they made them to fit my body measurements perfectly.

The girls are great to talk to, very knowledgeable and the delivery time from the time I ordered to receiving my jacket was exceptional. I ordered one style and after receiving it, didn't care for the cut, they sent me the jacket I have now even before getting the other back, this may not happen for everyone, but they were awesome.

I am looking at purchasing another jacket from them.

By the way my jacket weighs 5.2 lbs, and I can assure you, I am well protected, the quality of the leather and thickness is awesome, I feel comfortable saying I would have minimal road rash if any.

Read the testimonials on their site, you will see they are the best :)

Jackets Online
by: Tara

There are heaps of Jackets online to see, but you might have to get one made if the arms are too short in most of the ones you try on. I have a Dri-Rider and it comes down over my bum and hips, and has full armour as well. My leather pants come right up to over my belly button, and I wouldn't have it any other way - have you seen anyone slide across tarmac? It doesn't care if you look cool or not, it will take any exposed skin and keep it for itself! Remember - ATGATT - all the gear, all the time. It's not about if you fall/get knocked off, but when....
