Introducing Myself

by Gwen
(Athens Texas)

Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself and my new baby. I'm Gwen from East Texas and after 28 years on the back behind hubby, I decided to get my own ride. She's a 2009 Shadow Spirit 750, reddish/maroon in color. She matches hubby's Goldwing, I take my Motorcycle course next month and so excited, I'll post a picture of her as soon as I can.

Hello,
My Name is Marvin Jr my Fathers name was Marvin L Campbell Sr he was the youngest of the Campbell kids. James was his older brother. There were also Doyce, Flora, Snook, Leonard. James kids are my cousins Wayne and Billy. I always thought of them as my Uncles. Since my father was the youngest child. We lived in Athens until 1966 then moved to Fort Worth. Im now 54 years old myself. My father passed away in 1985 and my mother Charlene Campbell passed away in 1995. I live in Clearwater, Florida now. I miss TEXAS also! I hope other Campbell's see this. I believe the Chair Factory closed years ago.

I know/knew the Campbells @ chair factory
by: Coop

I knew those fellas very well back in the mid 80's to the early 90's. I sure hope they are all well. Great people. Wayne owns the factory, and Michael and Mark are his two grown sons. I worked for them about 5 years too. Loretta is Michaels wife's.

At least that is the last info I have on them. I have not seen them for about 8 or 10 years now.

Solid people that helped out an ol' country boy they did not know. I owe them!

Tell my kinfolks Sassy said hello.
by: Sassy2731

It's funny you probably know my kinfolks better than I do. I still have a rocking chair my uncle built back in the 60's in my living room. My Dad used to go up and pick up chairs, stools and porch swings to sell down here in Houston. I'm with you about having wished I started riding earlier in life. I guess I was just too comfortable on the back with the hubby, but the older I get the harder it is to ride on back. It is just so much more comfortable on my own bike. Remember to tell my kinfolks I said hello. They will know me by Sassy (Merlen's daughter).

I know your kin folks.
by: Gwen

I know the Campbells, the chair factory is still in business, but I don't think on the scale that it used to be. Small world.

I'm going to go after awhile and do some more practicing in a parking lot again, it is so freeing to do this, I am like a few others on here, I wished I would have started earlier in my life. But better late than never. Everybody have a great day.

I have a cousin in Athens!
by: Sassy2731

Hey it's me again. I do have family in Athens. I don't see them much anymore. They are the children of my Grandmother's sister (my cousins). The last name is Campbell and they owned a chair factory for many many years now. My aunt and uncle's names were James and Mary Campbell. My cousins name is Billy Campbell and I don't remember his wife's name or his brothers name. Bad me! Not sure what their childrens names are either. I just know they own that chair factory there in Athens that makes wooden rockers and porch swings and stools, etc. Not even sure if they are still in business or not. I saw them a few years back at a family reunion. They were older than me and more my brothers age group (about 12 years older than me). Anyway, I do know where Athens is just haven't been there in a very long time. (maybe 45 years or so). Wow I'm getting old now. lol

Glad you are practicing, because that is what is will take to be a better rider. Practice and more practice.

Getting More Confident
by: Gwen

I'm in Athens, love me some East Texas. Thanks for the link I'll check into it. I'm having a blast on this little girl. Went to a parking lot last night and worked on my clutching and u turns. Little more confident today, I've came off her twice in the past, so I can use all the confidence I can muster.

Hi Back at Ya!
by: Sassy2731

Hey there, what part of East Texas. I was born in Carthage and my Mom and Dad were from Garrison so I was half raised there. I live in North Houston now. Maybe we can meet up sometime to ride. Planning on a trip the last weekend of August to VanBuren Arkansas to a women's rally with the Sister's in Spirit. Men are invited too but with one of us. lol
