For all my Shorties!
by: shortychick

OK, honestly, trying to find a bike to FIT YOU is NOT a good idea. What if you don't really like it? What if it's uncomfortable? What if it handles funky? What if it makes you feel weary of riding? Trust me I totally understand. SO, solution, YOU need to find a bike you like, or even love, and feel comfortable and confident about and then have it CUSTOMIZED TO YOU. Trust me, I just bought my first Harley, 2008 V-Rod Night Rod Special. Comes custom from the factory with forward controls that I kid you not were almost a full 12" away from my foot and 2" too high off the ground. So, because I fell TOTALLY IN LOVE with the thing at first sight (hadn't even ridden it yet) I had IT customized to FIT ME and am more comfortable and confident about this monstrously fast (1300+ cc) and big (almost 9' long) bike than I did with my first little 650 Honda Shadow. I'm not knockin' the Shadow, it was a great starter bike, but I did what you're thinking 'find a bike to fit me' and not the 'find a bike I like or love and have it customized to fit me'. Find a good mechanic that you trust and get along with and they can work magic on anything, although it may take a little time though. The important part is that you are comfortable on and confident about the bike YOU LIKE AND LOVE and then you change what you need to fit IT to YOU. :) My Honda took a week to lower (had to wait on the kit to come in) but my Harley took 3 months because Harley doesn't make what I call a 'shorty' conversion kit for this model and my mech had to work some magic but he made it happen :). MY BIKE IS TRULY CUSTOMIZED TO FIT ME AND NO ONE ELSE and I am more comfortable and confident on it than I was on the Honda. Go with your gut and get the one that makes YOU feel confident and have it customized to FIT YOU, then don't ever look back cause the guys will enjoy being passed by you girl! Hope this helps and that all my Shorties Ride on with Confidence (and don't forget the style)!

Fat Boy!!!
by: Crissy

I too, am 5'3" and have the Fat Boy with a Lowering kit on it. LUV it!!! Heritage Classic has the same frame, and can even be lowered a bit more. I have not sat on it yet, but the new Rocker (Harley) looks pretty nice. Good Luck!

What to Ride
by: Julie

Well you need to go sit on as many bikes as possible. I don't know what style of bike you are interested in but I drive a ninja 250 ZZr and I am not quite 5'2. I feel comfortable on it and my boots give me a little more height:) Good luck!

Boots Do Help
by: sassy2731

I forgot to mention that my boots do give me about 1 1/2 inches height which does help a lot when riding the roadking, but the other bikes I can ride with flat boots no problem.

I'm Short Too!
by: Sassy2731

I'm only 5'2" and I ride Harley's. I have a 92 sportster, 05 Fatboy and an 05 Roadking. Any bike can be adjusted to you by seats, handlebars, and lowering kits. Personally the Fatboy, Deluxe or Heritage are all really good bikes that all can be lowered for your height. My hubby did have to make a special lowering bracket for my Roadking Classic because of the hard leather bags. The sportster or dyna are both really good starter bikes for women. Then next in line are the fatboy, heritage and deluxe. My favorite is the fatboy. Mine has a low profile seat and I can sit on it and be flat footed with my knees bent and it is a very well balanced bike. My roadking tends to be a little big at times, but it is really nice on long highway rides. I have to only ride the roadking if someone rides with me to help me out in a bind if I park on a slope, etc. The fatboy I can park her anywhere and can move her with no problem. Don't let anyone tell you that you are too short to ride a bike! If I can ride one anyone can. lol I'm am most comfortable on the fatboy when riding alone, because I know I can handle her.

Shorty

Check out the smaller cruisers (metric). The Honda Shadow is low and light. I rode one all last summer and hated to give it back! Thankfully I got my own cruiser bike.

Finding a motorcycle that fits.
by: Anonymous

There is an article on bikes that addresses this in this issue of Road Runner magazine. One bike is a Victory, Triumph, Harley makes several special Low models with extra low seats, Honda shadow has some of the lowest saddle heights of all. Check out the issue and it will help you . The dealers are suppose to work with you but it is nice if you can find a used bike then you know what you are looking for.

Best of luck

Footwear!
by: Fiddler

Thick-soled boots can make your reach to the ground much easier. I went shopping at a Harley shop (I ride an Ninja!) and found boots that added over an inch to my inseam. That makes a huge difference for me.

BMW
by: Wanda

I love the BMW G650GS. With low seat and low suspension option, the seat height is only 29.5 inches. Get out there to all the motorcycle dealers and repair shops and sit on as many bikes as you can. You are sure to find one you love.

Go SHOPPING!
by: Sandra

Many cruisers are built with a low seat; my Suzuki C50 is 27 inches, which is a lower bike; I just sat on a 2011 Harley Davidson a week or so ago that felt even lower! There are lowering kits, and seat modifications that can bring a bike even lower if required. But sitting on the bike and standing it up under you is the most FUN way to explore your options! Your sales staff will be MOST interested in helping you find a great fit...suck the knowledge right out of their heads and then you can start shopping more specifically for the bike that will meet ALL your riding needs, not just address your height.

I know Jillian Michaels has owned several bikes including a Harley (she's one of their spokespersons now) and I think a Ducati...she is only 5'2" and 120 pounds, so do not give up!
