How can I lower my bike?

by Jennifer
(Fisher, WV)

I just got a 1985 Honda Nighthawk 450 motorcycle. I can touch the ground just the tip toes. How can I adjust the height on the bike so my feet are flat on the ground?

Look for a lowering kit, which should contain new brackets for your shocks. If they don't make one for your bike, the lower shock brackets can be lowered by drilling new holes an inch or so below the stock holes - but get a mc mechanic to do this. Also look for some aftermarket shocks with a shorter measurement, which will bring it down a little more.

If your front end stays too high after all this, then (not sure if it works with your bike but) you should be able to loosen the pinch bolts on the forks & push the forks up through the clamps a little.

You should be able to lower the bike 2+ inches this way.

Put struts in place of shocks. Or, Check your local dealer to see if they can put a lowering kit on.
