Honda Shadow 600 VLX or the VLX Deluxe

by Jeanne - New Niker
(Iowa)

I have searched the internet websites and found only frustration trying to get information the what the VLX Deluxe has over the VLX??? I have seen used bikes that list both, but the details never specify what the difference is, other then the NADA and KBB have dif. pricing, w/the DLX always being slightly more money. Can anyone give me some details please and thank you?

600 VLX Deluxe...Characteristics...
by: Jessica

Hi! I posted details on this subject below your comment back in Sept 2009 (I think...?). But really - the only main difference is the amount of chrome (which makes it look more like a Harley to non-HD riders) and the original seat was a bit cushier than the regular VLX.

The fact that so few were sold in the states, however, makes it *feel* special to me. I also kept the original color - although now that I'm actually riding it this season (passed my course w/ the best scores in the class after screwing up my 1st go-round last yr) - I realize I'm not a huge fan of the teal and think I'll go black next season.

It's a fun bike - although if I decide to keep it, I think we're going to have to tweak it a bit so I can ride the highways w/out feeling like I'm punishing my ride.

Have fun!! Ride safe!

Jessica

I have the vlx. The only dif is the deluxe has a
chromed side cover just below the seat. The rest of the bike is exactly the same.

VLX Deluxe and Custom
by: Elden

The first production year for the VLX was 1988. The first VLX Deluxe started in 1993. Honda used the USA as a test market in 1993 to see how the Deluxe model VLX'S sold. Only 400 Deluxe's were sent to the USA in 1993, two of those were sold in New York. I bought one of those two in November of 1992, one hour after it was wheeled out on the showroom floor. I still have it. The only difference between the custom and Deluxe model's was the chrome but I was told that The 1993's had more horsepower to promote the first model year. The 1993's have become very collectible because so few were sold.

I have a VLX Deluxe
by: Jessica

I think it's just a matter of the amt of chrome. Mine is a 1993, (which is teal/blue with the black insert and lots of chrome). When I purchased the bike, the previous owner had the original seat which I've now put on the bike. I think that's part of the "Deluxe" aspect - It's very "cushy" - very comfy - although I've only done parking lot practicing so far, my b/f rode the bike to work (60 miles round trip), and said the seat was comfy - although he didn't think I'd be doing a lot of long rides on the bike.

DLX

The DLX has a bit more chrome, and a softer seat (or at least it used to). It also came in two-tone color combination's on the tank. Mechanically they are identical.
