I am 4'11", 115 lbs, I have never rode a motorcycle and would like to learn how. I don't know anything about motorcycles and am a complete beginner. What motorcycle would you recommend for someone of my height and weight?

Hang in There

I'm just starting as well, and just wanted to say don't get discouraged when everyone gives you the crazy eye when you say your are a complete beginner. I can drive a straight shift truck and use to shifting gears with my foot on our four wheeler (I get the concept) and people still act crazy when i say I just got my bike and am a beginner. I'm doing everything by the book and so far so good. So hang in there and know that you CAN do it, even if you've never had anything to do with bikes in the past!

Starter Bike

I also ride a Ninja 250. Great little bike, light, good on insurance, goes fast enough for me. I even rode it out East (NS, NB, PQ, PEI) and all the way back. Great bike!

Height and Bike

Hi,

I am only 5ft tall so I had similar problems in finding a bike. First, though, I recommend that you sign up for the nearest MSF course. They are usually held at nearby community college campuses.
you can go online and find one near you.

Next, if you know someone else who rides, take them with you to look at bikes. Sit on as many as you can to see what fits well.

My husband (he has ridden for over 30 years) wanted me to at least have a bike that was big enough and powerful enough to get me out of the way if I happened to pull out in front of a semi. (just an example)

For me I found that I did not like how the seat felt on a lot of the cruiser styles. I did find that the Buell Blast had a low seat that I liked and it was about 500 cc. which was big enough to get me down the road and still keep up with the big boys. I have been riding that bike since 2003. It is also about 400 lbs. and I can pick it up by myself if I need to (and I have a few times.)

Ninja 250

Hey,

If you are looking more for a crotch rocket style, I ride a Kawi ninja 250. I'm 5"1 and 110 lbs and I find it's the perfect bike for me!

My feet are flat on the ground and it's not as heavy as the other bikes are.

Short Riders

I recommend the Honda Shadow 750 or the Yamaha VStar 650. Both are short, well-balanced motorcycles.
