Heel Shifter

by Linda
(Maryland)

Does anyone have a heel shifter? And if so, what do you think of it? It seems like an easier way to shift rather than to have to keep moving your foot over and under the shifter. (and it scuffs your boots!). But I'm thinking my feet are too small anyway. I wear a size 6 boot. My husband had one and didn't like it, but I thought I'd get some women's opinions.

Heel Shifter - Love Mine!
by: Angie

I just bought a new 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan with a heel / toe shifter on it. (Up until now, I've only used a typical shifter.) I was anxious and nervous about it, especially when I took it for a test ride before I bought it. Turns out, its been a breeze to get used to and I LOVE IT! Bye-Bye scuffed toes on my boots!

It takes time to get used to the Heel shifter but I love it. It really is easier. Give it time and you will see how convenient it really is.

Other than the bike I took my safety class on, I've never ridden a bike without one - and I LOVE it! No scuffed boots and it's much more comfortable not having to move your foot over and under all the time. Even if your foot is small, all you need to do is slide your foot back to hit the shift.

Heel Shifter

I have many friends that have the heel shifter, I have tried it but not while the bike was moving (since I value my life and won't date try to actually ride my ex's Streetglide) lol - it felt ok - different - it would take some getting used to that's for sure. But it has its merits since my linkage on my shifter is a bit long anyway and I have to keep my foot up and over the foot peg to get my toes under the shifter

My next bike I plan to get the heel shifter on, and yes to the boots not getting scuffed up.
