Glasses and Visor Fogging Up

by Michelle
(Brampton, Ontario, Canada)

Hi,

I'm a brand new rider. I went for my first ride on the road today, and a few weeks ago I took the safety course. I'm sure I will have many more questions but here is the first one:

Every time I have ridden so far it has been raining/damp/foggy or some form of wet. How do I keep my glasses from fogging up. Also is there a way I can keep my visor from fogging up. So far I have just kept the visor open pretty much all the time (I feel less claustrophobic like that), which helps with the visor but my glasses still get foggy and its hard to see. Contacts are not an option for me according to my eye doctor and I cannot see without my glasses.

Also is it okay to always have your visor up?

Foggy Too

I wear glasses and have had the same problem as you. I bought some anti-fog spray at my dealers and it really helps. Also, Pearl Vision has a product called Kleer Fog for glasses and plastic lenses that works well. I have also seen anti fog cloths that you can use to wipe your glasses and shield, but I haven't tried them yet.

Fogging...

You can keep your visor cracked open a fraction, that helps, but when it's cold, try wiping the inside of your visor with a little dish washing liquid. Or Mr Sheen - a furniture polish spray, wipe the visor with that and polish it clear. There are commercial applications - one is called Cat Crap(no, really), or there are clear/tinted inserts that can be attached to the inside of your visor(like the protective screen that you put on your mobile phone). You should try anti-fog stuff on your glasses, make sure that they are clean - dirty glasses tend to fog up more.

There are face covers, like a balaclava but they only cover your mouth and nose and it directs your breath away from the inside of your helmet.
I hate it and it frustrates me, so I've done a bit of internet research, and I ask every one I can to see what they've tried and what seems to have worked for them.

Fogging Up

I assume you are talking about fogging on the outside of your shield, they make a great little rubber scraper that fits on your finger or thumb large enough to go over your gloves. I carry one all the time if it's misty I can use it to clear my shield and if it's raining it works really good to keep your vision clear. Also some gloves have a rubber piece sewn in to the seam for the same purpose.
