Fun Places to Ride

by Kate
(Massachusetts)

I'm a recently licensed rider with lots of parking lot practice and some practice in a small residential neighborhood. Here in the Boston area, roads aren't in great shape and things are really congested, so going out in traffic is stressful. I'll be doing more and more of that this season.

What I think would be really fun is to go somewhere where there's little or no traffic but really fun motorcycle roads, where a beginner could ride around and enjoy the roads and not be constantly negotiating traffic situations, horrible potholes, and other potential hazards. In my head I visualize something like a motorcycle "ranch" or "resort", some place that someone has set up specifically for fun. Or, alternatively, some place that's not necessarily closed to car traffic but has very little, and the roads are easy and fun for beginners. Some scenery would be nice too.

ARE there places like this? Anywhere in the US? Or am I asking the impossible.

Thanks!

I used to live in Mass. Have you looked around the Dighton/Rehoboth area? This is a rural area with several small towns surrounding it. You can get there by going 95 or 24 check out a local map.

Have fun!

National Motorcycle Day
by: Wanda

I wish the federal government would declare a National Motorcycle Day. No four-wheeled vehicles would be allowed on the roads for a whole day (except for emergency vehicles, of course).

Unless you do dual sport riding, I doubt you will find exactly what you describe. There are organized dual sport rides advertised on the Internet where the owners have agreed to allow the use of there land for a few days. Some of the rides are a couple hundred miles long across dirt roads and who knows what. You would need a dual sport bike. Having GPS helps on these rides. There is usually a cap on the number of riders allowed, so it is best to sign up early.

You could always trailer your bike to a remote location and ride once you get there. I like riding just after sun up on the weekends to avoid traffic.

Would be nice if that place was really in the world.
