For my Dad

by Margo
(Michigan)

I'm 17 and my Dad was recently diagnosed with lung cancer and it is likely that he won't live for more than a few years. His biggest passion has always been motorcycles, and no one else in the family has really gotten into it. For me, I'm hoping it will be a way for my Dad and I,m to stay close until the very end. I'm getting my motorcycle endorsement as a surprise to my Dad, I can only imagine what he'll think when I ride up with a bike of my own. I'll be getting lots of help from this website, I'm sure- having only ever ridden on the back of my Dad's bikes. I will ride for the rest of my life, just to keep him alive.

Never too late to learn...
by: Dee Dee

Hi, Margo...When I read your article I was so touched to hear that you are getting your motorcycle endorsement so that you and your Dad can share the experience of riding together. He will be so proud of you. I always rode on the back of a bike but last summer I bought a motorcycle and got my endorsement at 62 years of age. That's right...a Harley Mama...as my kids say. (LOL) After I got my license I told my kids "if I can do that at my age,I believe you can do anything". Stay Safe, ride on and feel the wind! Much love to you and your Dad.

Hi Margo. Like you, my dad was my inspiration. He loved motorcycles his whole life. He was diagnosed with cancer and died 2 years ago.
He left me a little money, and one day I just found myself at a bike shop, buying a Honda CB250 Nighthawk. It was perfect for me. I got my license last year and am loving the experience.
Riding a motorcycle truly does make me still feel connected to my dad. I think of him everytime I fire up my bike and I imagine him as an angel riding with me.
My best wishes to you and your dad. I hope you find peace and love in all you do.
