exhaust pipe heat

by Scott
(orlando, fl)

I recently purchased a Honda Shadow 600vlx with 2000 miles on it. It runs great, shifts fine, operates like new. One of the exhaust pipes is blued or otherwise colored from heat I assume. Also the engine, specifically the circular area near the shift lever gets super hot, and stays hot for a long time after shutdown. Is this normal? Like I said it runs great with no "idiot lights" on. Thank you for any help you can offer.
