I hope some one can help me out. I have a 2000 Yamaha V-Star 1100cc Classic and I'm having some trouble getting the bike to stay on. When I start the engine I open the choke and let the engine start for a bit. When I go to take the choke off the engine cuts off. I'm not sure what to think and I'm leaning on maybe bad gas or not.... Please help me out. Thank you to all for getting back to me.

Fix my bike.
by: Bella

Well I did my research and found out that it was BAD gas.... So I drained the tank out and put new gas in the tank. Next and installed new spark plugs and cleaned out the air filter. Guess what?? The bike started up after a few trys and it run without the choke being on... I fixed the problem to my bike..... Loving it...

Engine Problems
by: Robin

I had the same problem with my Honda Nighthawk. My brother, a 20-year rider, told me to bump up the idle. Didn't do much. My other brother, long-time rider AND auto engineer in Detroit, said skip the idle adjustment, forget the Sea Foam: just take it to the shop for a tune-up. He was right. I'm glad I didn't waste time with DIY guesswork. I was back on the road in a day, and my bike runs like new.

VStar
by: Lynn

I have the '02 VStar 1100 and mine runs really cold. One time my idle screw got bumped when cleaning the bike and luckily it was a easy adjustment. Mine runs real cold and needs a good warm up. If it isn't a quick fix, I wouldn't mess around and take it to your mechanic.

CHOKE
by: Anonymous

I usually start mine on half choke, full in the winter. Do you completely take the choke off or maybe slowly turn it down. I leave mine on for at least mile or so. go slow and see what it does. Sure you got your idle set right? I messed with mine once and it took me a while to get it to where it wouldn't die at stop signs.
