Dual Sport

by Kfreeman

My husband is in the process of purchasing a KTM 990 and i was wondering if there are any suggestions about what type of dual sport bikes are comfortable for women riders. The problem I have been running into is that that most of the dual sport bikes are too tall for me, but I am 5'7. Any thoughts?

Terry,

Thank you for your input! I am looking at the BMW 650 or 1150. I am glad to hear they can be lowered :) Thanks again!

Tall Bikes
by: Terry

If you look at the BMW's you'll find that the tour companies that used them twisted BMW's arm to come up with a way to make the bike lower with a kit. They also offer different seats (low , Std , Tall) this adjusts about an inch each. I have a 29 in inseam and I can fit on a full (1150 , 1200 GS with the kit) or you could look at the new 800 GS or a 650 GS all are great bikes.

Ride well,

Terry

BMWs?
by: Anissa

I myself ride a Suzuki Vstrom I am very happy with. I am 170 cm tall but happy to have rather longish legs (32 inch I believe).

I think BMW offers nearly every dual purpose bike in their range as a low version as well. And you can also buy the lowering kit for older BMWs. :)

I have a KLX250 and we bought a lowering link for it and shaved the seat down a bit...i am just looking for a bigger engine bike, i guess. something that will be comfortable to take on longer trips with my husband. thank you for the responses:)

WIsh I Was That Tall!

At your height, you would have no problems at all on the Yamaha XT250. I have a 29" inseam and it sits at about 30 1/2". I am still able to ride it, control it, and back it up. I have put 300 miles on mine and have had it about 6 months. Hope this helps. Happy riding!

Forget About Height--Let's Talk Inseam

length. THAT, plus the given model's seat height & suspension stiffness, is what will determine what you can be comfortable on.

From 2001 to about 2005 Kawasaki made a 250cc dualsport called the Super Sherpa. Yamaha makes some shorter ones too but I don't remember the model names.

Good luck.

P.S. Have you thought about a restored or well preserved vintage dual sport? Shouldn't be too tall!
