Dressing for Cold Weather

by Caroline
(Kanata, Ontario, Canada)

I am wondering your advice and reviews on the best way to layer up for cold weather riding. I am a skier and tend to go with the long underwear strategy. I have recently gone on some cold rides and need ideas to stay warm yet able to move too! My layers are too thick. We are thinking of getting some heated gear...any thoughts!!

Thanks

Klim Dakar pants are awesome!
by: Anne

I use my Klim Dakar pants for everything between 45-105F degrees. They have huge vents for heat and are completely windproof. Completely comfortable without thermal underwear down to 45F. Also, if you use a neck gaiter (mine is not fleece, just garden-variety tech material), it really helps retain upper body heat. I use BMW's new Phase Change jacket under my jacket to retain body heat (I'm trying to avoid buying heated clothing as long as I can...but will buy Gerbing when I do).

Cold Weather Gear
by: Anonymous

If you are a rider and not passenger heated grips or heated gloves are really nice. Heated gear in general. A heated vest to keep your core warm. Heated seat. These are just suggestions and whatever fits in your budget.

A really good winter coat and a pair of riding pants with liner.

I am sure you have some good ski socks which work will with the boots.

A buff under your head.

I am sure there will be more suggestions to come.

Good luck and stay warm.
