Do you have names for your motorcycles and/or 'vanity' plates?

by Joan
(Oklahoma)

I am in the process of picking out a name and possibly a 'vanity' plate for my black Sportster Superlow. I was wondering how many of you have named your motorcycles and/or have gotten 'vanity' plates for them. If you have named yours, would you mind sharing the name (or your vanity plate) and also give us a little background as to how you came up with the name/plate that you picked out. Thanks! Joan

Bike name
by: Joan

Well, I've had my Sportster two years today...and still haven't come up with a name that I half way like until just recently. I am in the process of reading an e-book called 'Me and the 53'. It's about a guy and his '53 Harley. Anyway, the main character in the book is called 'Scorchy'. I'm thinking that when you scorch something, it usually turns black and since my bike is black that it would be a fun name. I will try it out some and see if it sticks or not...if I can remember it! Old age does wonders on the brain :0)

Finally, wheels again!
by: Kek

I'm 55 and haven't ridden in 9 years.(So I'm re-acquainting real slow.) I got my license in 2003 and rode for about six months. The bike I was riding at the time was stolen, so I've been without wheels until now. I just got a gorgeous pearl white Harley Sportster 1200 custom. He sounds so BAD! I named him "Hoss" as in the big, tough Hoss Cartwright who always wore the big white hat on Bonanza. I'm hoping he's gonna take good care of me and I like the sound of saying Hoss and I are going for a ride!

I thought what I should use as a vanity plate for my bike. I finally chose SHARTZ... Yeah I get asked about that more often than you'd think.

It came to us...
by: Irene

...on a 6,500 mile trip. I was always lead on my little V-Star 250, while hubby "chased" on his V-Star 950. While in NM, we saw a souvenir with a roadrunner, a coyote, a rattler, and a bike. Now my 250 is called "Roadrunner" (always ahead), and his 950 is "Coyote" (always chasing).

Funnily enough, I bought a new V-Star 650 during the trip that has a very faint rattle (probably from the windshield) that comes and goes. At first, I tried to find out where it was coming from but now I figure it just wanted to be called "Rattler", so it is. And the souvenir sits on the dashboard of the minivan. =D

PRRRL
by: Denise

My Honda 750 shadow's name is Prrrrl because she is pearlized white and she purrs. I love the comment from Faith's owner, by the way. You are a tough cookie, my dear. Keep riding.

"Flipper"
by: Sandy

When I bought my Heritage, I also bought a white mesh jacket that had aqua and orange stripes (Miami Dolphin colors) on it. My husband commented that I would look like a dolphin going down the road, so I named my bike "Flipper." (I hoped that "Flipper" wouldn't have a second meaning related to my riding ability, i.e. "She hit the brake and that bike flipped-her right over the handle bars.") The tag FLIPPER was already taken, so I opted for FLIPPR.

Battle Rabbit!
by: Darcy

I ride a Ducati Super Sport 750; my first bike, had her about 2 months now. She is my Battle Rabbit because I have an obsession with rabbits and with Tank Girl (my own nickname amongst close friends). I love my bike, but she isn't exactly what I'd call pretty (though, she will be, in time!), so Battle Rabbit just seemed like the perfect name. It feels like we take on the world together. :)

The Dark Knight!
by: colleen

I was all set to name my motorcycle Lance, after the man I bought it from. He was the original owner and had to give it up due to health reasons. I thought it would be a fitting tribute. HOWEVER, once I got it home and started riding it, I kept referring to it as the Dark Knight. It feels fitting and I figure Sir Lance the Dark Knight could be the full name! haha it is funny how these names just come to us and feel right!

Bike Name
by: Tracie

While I felt the idea of naming my bike was kinda silly (however my sewing machine came with a name) I did decide to name her.. I've only had this bike for less than a week but 2 days ago, for no apparent reason, "Roxanne" by the Police popped into my head... so now I call her Roxanne :)

Not yet
by: Jess

I'm having trouble thinking of a name for mine. She's a 2011 Vulcan 900 Custom - Maroon in color. I'm loving this bike but have yet to think of something fitting. I've only been riding her for a month and she is my first. I believe that it will just hit me one day - what to call her. So until that day, she is just "my girl".

I bought a 2006 Sportster few months back. Her forks are a little mottled but she runs great. So I named her MzDazey. I feel so independent and free on her. It's always fun going out and driving (RIDING) MzDazey. Oh yeah I too have a Phoenix tat which I got a few yrs ago when my life was changing. Ride on Ladies and be safe!

It didn't take me long to figure mine out!
by: Chris

I picked up a fixer-upper Honda Magna v30 two weeks ago after taking the course August long weekend (road trip with my dad, who's ridden for 46 years now!) We were looking it over in his garage, and for some reason "Peanut" popped in my head - like the Jeff Dunham character (YouTube it - totally worth it!) It's got attitude, it does what it wants, and it goes "neeEEEEOOOOOWWWWWWNNNNN!" ;-) I'm definitely not going to paint it to match though lol!

Feenix
by: Linda

When a phoenix dies it rises from the ashes, reborn & that's what I thought of after years of abusive & cheating husbands (3 of them, yeah, slow learner). I'm back for more on MY terms. One day reading the newspaper I saw a pic of a Kawasaki 900 Vulcan LT & had to have one. I have a phoenix tattoo on my leg now, too. That was 2 yrs. ago when I was a few months away from the big "five-O"

Beast!
by: Dawn

To comment on some of the above comments: I bought a 650 Yamaha V-star a couple of years ago. I did love the bike, however, I felt the need to "move up"... I also am a cancer survivor, March 28th, 2000 was my last treatment. I was given a week. Congrats to us both!

I moved up to an 1100, and then to what is currently the biggest Yamaha out there... the 2010 Stratoliner Deluxe 1900. I appropriately named her "The Beast" and will soon have that name painted on her.

Mercy
by: Jeanne

My bike has a nick name "mercy" on the plates, but her real name is Mercedes because she is my Mercedes. It's an all blacked out HD Sporty Iron 883. Mercy fits her well too, since she really needs to show me some Mercy at times.

Lucy, I'm hoooooome
by: Les in Omaha

I just bought my first bike...a V-star 650. I got her on Lucille Balls 100th birthday, and she is silver on the sides and red on top...so her name is "Lucy". Every time I walk into the garage, I say "Lucy, I'm hoooome!"

Bike name
by: Linda

I have a two-toned purple 650 Yamaha V-Star custom and I named her FAITH. I was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer March 13, 2000 and was given about 3 months to live. Well, I'm still here and without realizing it until after the fact I bought my bike on March 13, 2011 and when it came to me later about the date, it just seemed the fitting name for her. FAITH got me through the battle and with FAITH now I'm enjoying life to the fullest once again!!!!

White Dragon!
by: Sandra

Suzuki Boulevard C50C - Pearl White with Ghost Flames (pale gold and silver flames) - and the spirit of a Dragon from the first time she let me "fly" with her and unceremoniously DUMPED my sorry @$$ in my neighbor's front yard...all to prove a point: I was not to be a passive "rider" anymore; I needed to take control or die! Dragons are GREAT teachers like that...and I LOVE her!!

If I were willing to spring the hefty fees for an Illinois vanity plate it would be WHT DRGN but I'm not...

Then I found out that Chinese Lore for "White (Spiritual) Dragon" is the guardian of wind and air...that's when I knew I had named her correctly.

My neighbor friend named hers simply "Chica" and our husbands refer to their Harley Heritages lovingly as their "girlfriends"...no names to remember, but always a good ride!
