Pearl, My 750 Honda Shadow

I am a 50 yr old nana that was always told by my husband that I could not get a bike. After getting rid of the husband, I bought my first bike and I am in love, will ride till I can no longer get on my 750 Honda Shadow, think I will want to be buried with pearl.

Its such an inspiration to hear about all the Nana's, Grannies, etc. riding. I will turn 63 this year and have been riding for about 8 years. Started on a V star 250 and loved it; the next year I knew I needed to upgrade (V Star 650 Custom). I loved it and road it to Colorado a couple of times, Dragon Trail in NC a couple of times but decided I needed a little more power for long distance riding so my curren bike is an 2009 Vstar 950. It's a great bike! Almost a little too heavy for my short legs (5' tall) but it rides great, center of gravity is low, I can't believe the difference in the 650 and the 950.

Due to my own mistakes, I've been on the ground a few times and had a broken elbow but I've continued to ride.

I love this site and reading about all you ladies and your experiences and great life stories. You all ride safe.

I am 54 amd just purchased my beautiful Red Vulcan 900. I have been in the parking lots for the last month 1/2. My husband has been very supportive of my small successes every weekend. I rode in my late teens. Must've been fearless. It was 35 degrees when we rode home today. It's winter now and I am very sad to put my baby away. My goal is to take the drivers test on my 900 next summer. All women out there who take up riding in their late 40's and 50's WAY TO GO! We will not be in the nursing homes with our walkers at 60 or 70's! THAT FOR SURE! My mom at 74 doesn't drive a motorcycle but she still rides with my step dad. Go women!

Go Nana!

Congratulations! I can't wait to join in on the fun and get out on the road. I'm a 64 year old Memaw, and I'm shopping for my first motorcycle now, having just passed the MSF course. It's hard to decide what to buy, so it's nice to read all the stories posted here - and an inspiration, to boot.

So Much In Common
by: Fran

I am finding a lot of us who are divorced and in our 50"s and now we are living for ourselves. I have two sons grown and 3 grandchildren and I have a wonderful guy who shares my passion for bikes.

At age 52, this is the best time of my life. I have a 1984 Yamaha Seca and I am picking up my new Triumph Bonneville on Saturday. Not sure if I am going to sell my Seca or keep it since it was my first bike and I got my license with it.

Congrat!

I am a 54 yr. young Grammy & got back to riding around age 50. The 750 Shadow is an awesome bike! I got to ride one for several months and loved it! Although I was never discouraged from riding, some thought I may be getting too old! PLEASE! I am in better shape than a lot of 20 somethings out there. You go Girl!!

What fun!
by: Cindy

Also an over 50 nana, and discovered riding to be the perfect improvement over the Ex. Mine is a Kawasaki Vulcan 500 which is perfect for me, with just over 3,000 miles. I plan much more on-the-road time this summer. Riding is such a wonderful experience for me, and has gotten me out and interested in the world- something that I had lacked for many years. I love it when my 2 year old grandson sees me coming on my bike and starts waving and yelling. Life gets no better- grandchildren, a new relationship, and my bike! Life is good- Ride safe!

You go GIRL!!

I had always said that I was going to have a bike before I turned 50! So, last summer, I bought a Honda Rebel 250, took the rider safety class, got my license, and started riding! I do wish I would have bought something bigger, but it is fine for me right now, this is really only the first summer with it since I got going so late last summer. But I just love it! I turn 50 this November, so I accomplished what I set out to do! Maybe next summer, I will sell the Rebel, and get something a little bigger to ride. But it feels so good to be on the road!! Good luck to ya!!

Shadow
by: Yvonne

I bought an 1100 Shadow last year while recuperating from a scooter wreck and have put about 4000 miles on it since. Love my Shadow and won't give it up. I'm also a grandmother and great grandmother, turning 60 last year was about the best thing that could have happened. Enjoy!!
