Crashes

by John

Been riding and racing for 45 years and I always get a kick out of new riders who say that they are going to do this or that in the event of a crash. Maybe in a tip over but in a crash I can tell you you're up then your down! No time to think No time to "throw your body the opposite way" NOTHING! You are up then you are down wondering what happened. This is a fact.

Launched is the Word
by: Katrina

When I learned to ride (last summer) the first weekend on a bike I launched myself off it... that kind of happens when a moving object hits an imobile one (LOL).

Yeah, you don't have time to think, you don't have time to react you only get to process when you are lying on the ground hoping that everything is still there and in working order.

When I decided to learn to ride seemed like everyone (who doesn't ride) asked me if I was afraid I was going to crash or wipe out... I don't believe you can get on a bike without the expectation that at some point you are going to do this. It is inevitable.

The only preparation I think you can have is to be prepared for the notion that it might happen. Wear the right gear, don't take stupid chances and keep a close eye on cagers (lol).

The other thing I found funny was that as soon as I did have my accident, people (who don't ride) asked me if I was going to ride again... yet no one would ask me if I was going to drive again if I got in a car accident, or if I was going to walk again if I fell down or tripped... double standard I guess.

Crashes

I hear you on this one. The two times I have dumped the bike its been because I hit the front brake and in spite of everyone telling me to stay off the front brake its just panic mode - one time I did it in gravel so not in and danger of an accident. Another time I was stupid and distracted for a split second before I saw a car coming that I almost turned in front of.
