Choosing Right Bike

I am a woman 5'5" and about 250#. I have tried riding my husbands Suzuki Intruder 800cc but it seems a little heavy for me. I am concerned that I will outgrow the 250cc bikes too quickly. Any suggestions on a good starter bike that will last awhile for me?

What?

I am a woman 4'10" and 115 lbs and I had a Suzuki Intruder 800cc bike. It was NOT too heavy and I loved it! It was my 2nd bike (the first was a Yamaha Virago 550cc and I quickly grew out of it - not enough power). I would still have that Intruder if I hadn't wanted a GSXR 1000cc sport bike even more.

Don't ever bother with a 250cc, unless you've got lots of time and money to waste moving through the sizes from small to larger. You don't have to get a huge bike, but an Intruder 800cc is one of the smaller Suzuki cruisers. It has plenty of power, is easy to ride, and I would recommend it to anyone - new or experienced.

Bike Height
by: Marty

My husband and I were shopping this past weekend at a BMW/Triumph/Ducati dealer in Greensboro, NC. We were told that a lot of bikes now have two styles - higher and lower. Ask your dealer if the bike you're interested in has two height options. Of course it will probably have to be a new bike.

I did have a V-Star that was the perfect height for a shorter person.

'Bout time they start considering the other 50%!

Other Options

Kawasaki's Vulcan 500 feels much less heavy/massive than any of the larger cruisers I sat on. I'm 5'4 and found it sooo comfortable. Still wouldn't mind having one in my garage. I was going to get one, but when my son dragged me into a Triumph dealership, I fell in love with a Bonneville. It's a standard bike. The seat height of the Bonnies is lower this year (if that's an issue), and as of '09 the Bonnies are all fuel injected (yay!), so if you're at all interested in a standard bike you might check them out.
