Bike won't start

My Vstar 650 will not start. I.ve replaced the gas. The last time this happened it cost me 500.00 to get it started. I rode it home and put it up for the winter. I went to start it come spring and it tried but would not keep running. It is most likely a simple fix, but it has me stumped.
