Bike Size

Bike Size

I now have a Honda VLX 600 (my first bike of 2 months). I would like a bigger one, of course. So my question is this: Do you think it's a good idea to go from a 600 to a Honda VTX1300 right away?

Just remember along with the increase in power comes the increase in weight. I'd say get a little more time in on the 600 the more comfortable you are with it the easier the transition will be to the 1300.

I as well have a 250 ninja and my friend she has a 750 or 700 for her first bike and I truly would stick with a smaller bike till you are comfortable enough to move to a bigger bike because there's nothing worse then dropping a bike 3 times to heavy for you to lift alone and she had to have help to get her bike up while I easily lifted mine. No rush just enjoy it

I agree with Sassy. If you can afford it, keep the smaller bike too. I own both a 250 & 1100 and enjoy them both. The 250 Ninja was bought just a few months ago and I use her for commuting to work & around town. My 1100 is the road bike.

Give Yourself Time

I myself rode my first bike 1yr to get more familiar with riding. Don't rush yourself. Give yourself time to be comfortable on your first bike. Then consider moving up bigger. But do make sure you are comfortable on the bigger bike too. It may be that a smaller bike is better sometimes. I ride all sizes, but have found that if I ride by myself I prefer my fatboy over my roadking just because I am more able to flatfoot it and have more control when backing it up, etc. I only ride my large roadking if my husband is riding with me just in case I get in a bind as I have tried to back it up it a difficult situation and ends up pulling my tendon in my knee. So please think hard about the size of the bike and the comfort you feel. I still like to ride my roadking on long highway trips with my hubby, but just around town I prefer the smaller bike.
