Bike Size

Hello, I am looking to start riding with my husband. He rides a sport bike and he took me out to try to learn how to ride it. The problem is that I am 5'3 and his 2006 Honda CBR600RR is too tall for me. Does anyone know of a sport bike that would "fit me?" Any advice would be great. I know they can lower them, but I have heard that it can only be lowered like 1 inch or something. I would prefer a sport bike so I can ride with my husband, so if anyone has any suggestions I would GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks!

Short Girls Like Rockets Too

I'm 5'2.5" and I got my own bike last season. I ride with my husband who has a GSXR1000. I wanted something that had enough power to keep me satisfied beyond the beginner phase so I got a Suzuki Katana 600. It fits me comfortably and I LOVE riding both with him and alone. The bike has a good seat height and it sits a bit more upright than his GXSR...less back strain= longer ride time. Its a 1996 so it has a less aggressive styling but still looks hot. I get a million looks while out! While shopping I also tried a Honda F4i that fit pretty well.

ASIDE: take the MSF course! My man taught me how to ride but I was always a little nervous I would drop his sacred machine. The MSF provides a bike for you to learn on and you'll get the confidence you need for about 300 bucks...worth it! Best Wishes!

Ninja 250

What is your INSEAM LENGTH rather than your height? That is much more important. You need to use that vs. the seat height of any particular bike in helping to determine how well a bike will fit, whether you will be able to "flatfoot" on one or both sides, and therefore allow for more low-speed confidence in maneuvers in which you might have to put your feet down.

The Ninja 250 ('88 through '07) and new generation
('08 & '09) are awesome bikes. If you find one to be comfortable height wise first thing to do is get something other than stock tires. Pirelli Sport Demons are great tires. DON'T EVER SKIMP on tires!! Cheap tires are slick in the rain...don't go there.

Just FYI to the idiots that claim a Ninja 250 is gutless, not enough power..pure BS. I'm significantly overweight, have ridden everything from 55cc street legal mini Cafe Racers to 1000 & 1015cc superbikes, and found the Ninja 250 (I had a '95 I bought for my Nephew to learn on) one of the most fun bikes ever. You just have to keep the powerband in the sweet spot 5-9k rpm.

Good luck!
