Best Motorcycle for Short Girl 5'2"

by Susan
(New Jersey)

Do any short ladies out there that ride have any advice as to what type of motorcycle fits the small frame best? I want to learn how to ride but the motorcycles I have seen - I can't touch the ground!

Honda Rebel
by: Teresa L

I'm 5' 1 1/2" and my Honda Rebel fits me great. I'm ready for a bigger bike now that I've been riding a little over a year (the Rebel won't go much more than 70 mph when the wind's blowing). Tried a Honda Shadow but the controls were too far forward. I'm buying a Yamaha 650 Silverado next week.

Shadow
by: michelle

I am 5'2" 110 lbs and ride a Honda Shadow Spirit 750 and I love it. We did not have to change anything the seat was already low and they put risers on the handle bars before we purchased it.

Hope this helps

I'll have to agree with Quicklimegirl re: Height Means Almost Nothing. What inseam? My friend and I are in the same height but her inseam is 32" and mine's 30". She rides HD Softtail Heritage Classic (too high for me!) and I ride Yamaha V-star. I love my bike!

You just need to visit the showrooms and check out the bikes, find the one that feels just right!

The Right Bike for a Small Girl
by: bikergirl

I am 5'2" and I just bought a 750 Honda Shadow. The shadow is very good for short women because the seat is slung low and you can put your feet flat on the ground. While it is true that the size isn't that important but when learning it can make a difference. You have to feel at ease on the bike when you are learning and being able to put your feet flat when stopping aids in this. Try any type bike that his slung low like the shadow and watch the weight. My husband has a 750 Honda it is a 1979 and is much higher and heaver than my Shadow I can barely pick it up off the stand. I am very uneasy on it because of the height and weight go to a dealership and sit on different style bikes until you find one that feel is right you will know when you find the right one
I did.

Taking a Class

Did you buy your motorcycle first then take a course - or take the course first?

I am 5'3"and ride a Kawasaki Vulcan 500. I am able to have my feet flat on the ground when stopped. It is a very fun bike. You definitely just need to stop in the showrooms and try different ones and one will feel just right. Good luck!

I'm 5'3", 30" inseam and my first bike was a Honda Rebel. I now have a Suzuki 200 dual-sport and a lowered Harley Deluxe best thing to do is take a riding course.

Short Legs

I too am 5' 1.5", I actually ride a Yamaha V-Star. The seat is just perfect for my short legs. The bike isn't top heavy, which makes it feel even better.

Height Means Almost Nothing. What inseam?
by: Quicklimegirl

Your inseam length will determine what bikes you can sit on and come close to, or be able to flatfoot on one or both sides. Your height has virtually NOTHING to do with fitting on a bike.

I know a couple of women my height (5'6"). My inseam is 32"; one's is 35" (!!) and the other's is 30"

The seat height and width, and the height and pullback angle of the handlebars is what will determine how well you will fit.
