Battery Tender (Harley)

I had a Battery Tender Pigtail installed at a Harley Dealer. Here's my problem. I think that because of the vibration, the connector sometimes rubs against the exaust pipe. I think this sometimes results in a momentayr short. I can be riding along and all of a sudden, No POWER. I look down and sure enough, the connector part is touching the pipe. Two questions
1/ Can this be damaging to the electrical system?
2/ Any suggestions from others who have experienced the same.
