Back to hair...

by Becki
(Palmer Lake CO)

Alright, I have LONG hair - it goes to my waist. Usually I braid it and then tie off the ends.

By the time I get back the ends that stick out from the rubberband are tangled and broken. It feels rough for days after. I know this is silly but: sticking it in my jacket or tying it up at the base of my head are both itchy and uncomfortable. They make me feel a little less mobile and more contrained in my helmet.

My fiance and I are going to ride for two weeks (honeymoon) and I would really like to figure out how to not have a bad hair month and how to be comfortable riding. Any input on this delimna?

Thanks,
Becki

Google "snood"
by: Sandra

I have not actually purchased one yet, but have you ever heard of a "Snood"? There are lots of them on e-bay for you to look at, and I guess they are popular in the show horse arena for lady riders, too.

Some are crocheted "nets", some are actually solid fabric, that attach to your pony and keep the hair neatly coiled in the net/bag...

I've read a lot here about how silk is best against the hair, and was thinking of having one made of silk...

Just a thought! They come in different sizes, much like the leather hair gloves that snap over a braid or pony...of course, that would probably work too! LOL

Conditioner!
by: Nancy

Throw in some good leave in conditioner and braid your hair with it in. Secure it with a snag free/metal free elastic. This should hep keep it from tangling up. As a by product of all day conditioning your hair should free really great!

It's a leather sleeve to hold the end of your braids!

Back to Hair

They have leather pony holders that are about 10" long so you may want to buy a few of them. My girlfriend also has long hair like that and she leaves it down and it does break because of the whipping in the wind like the flags that fray. I would say that is the best analogy on the hair thing. Good luck. My hair is about to my shoulder blades and by the time summer ends I have so many broken ends it take all winter to heal it and grow back out.
