Woman Motorcycle Club

Woman Motorcycle Club

If you are a woman, and you ride a motorcycle, you need a club. Nothing is more fun that riding with others, especially when you belong to a motorcycle club and get to know the other members.

We are very fortunate to belong to a club that has regular rides, on a monthly basis, during the riding season. From April to October, we have an opportunity to meet up with our friends - people that we probably would never had met but for motorcycling - and ride through the Midwest, on organized and planned rides.

My most favorite group ride is the last one of the season - the ride in October is our traditional Pig Roast.

Motorcycles ready to ride The Pig Roast is a day ride, usually through Southern Wisconsin - known for the very well named Rural Road Routes through curvy farmland. I love the autumn season, but there is nothing that beats riding your motorcycle on a beautiful fall day as the leaves fall around you.

While we have some autumn rides in not-so-good weather, usually we are blessed with clear blue skies, warm temperatures, good group attendance, and great food. This year was no exception.

Perfect weather for motorcycles Just look at this sky - this is what we had for the entire ride. Towards the end of the day, the wind picked up a bit, but no rain and the clouds never put the sun out of business.

Despite some challenges with a malfunctioning helmet, which required the use of an ample amount of duct tape, I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. Just enough curves to make everybody happy, and enough straight roads to allow for some on-bike photography. (Which is something I do not recommend for the inexperienced.)

With the help of my easy-to-use digital camera, and some easy roads, I was able to capture the bikes ahead of me and behind me...and the beautiful day.

Some Tips for Group Riding

  • Keep a reasonable distance between you and the motorcycle in front of you.
  • Use your turn indicators - for the benefit of those behind you.
  • Put someone in charge of the map and directions
  • Watch out for other members of the group.
  • If there are slower riders at the back of the group, make sure that they know about route changes -have someone wait until everybody makes the turn.
  • Try to keep the bikes in "group formation" - i.e. staggered, right, left.
  • Don't pass on the right - ever.
Motorcycles in conference If you are a woman, looking for a motorcycle club restricted to women, you might ask at the motorcycle dealers in your area for suggestions. I have found that I find out the most information by stopping at gatherings of motorcyclists when traveling around on the weekends.

For an example of a great women's motorcycle group, devoted to family and charitable activities, go visit Sisters of Chrome - I think this group totally embodies all that is good about motorcycling with an organization.

Check out riding schools in your area - sometimes beginning riders form "informal" groups to bolster confidence and experience.

You might also have luck finding a coed club - motorcyclists are a friendly lot for the most part. Once you find people to ride with, take advantage of each opportunity. With each ride, you'll meet more new people and eventually you will find the group or club that makes you the most comfortable.
