Motorcycle Luggage Rack

Almost Like Adding a Trunk to Your Bike

If you like touring, you need a motorcycle luggage rack on your bike. With this addition, you will gain another place to put some hard luggage - or - have a handy shelf for a bungeed bag.

My BMW motorcycle has a "cafe seat" with a detachable piece of bodywork that can be used to cover the rear end of the seat. I haven't had the cover on the back of the seat since the first year - mainly because I usually have a bag bungeed to the back. On long trips, the bag becomes a handy backrest.

I would have the ability to add another piece of hard luggage - (which would be waterproof) if I added a luggage rack at the back. Riding without a passenger, I could still bungee stuff to the back of the seat, but would have room for a back bag on the luggage rack.

Types of Motorcycle Luggage Racks

The good thing is that you can find an after-market luggage rack that will match your bike - whether it be black or chrome. You need not disturb your motorcycle's aesthetics by adding an additional piece of hardware. Many of the racks that are available will fit several models without any adjustments or modifications.
