800cc versus 1100cc

by Jim
(Canada)

I have been riding a 99 Virago XV1100 se for many years. It has a very stong motor and lets me fly like the wind. I am now 64 years old.

Considering a new bike being an 08 Suzuki C50 800cc which is now at a very good price.

The dealer says with the new technology which includes fuel injection the 800 will be as stong as the 1100

Can this be true??

I have ridden a 2008 C50 Suzuki for 10,000 miles in the past 2 years. I ride along with other riders who have Harley Roadkings, Ultra Glides, 1200 Sportsters, also a 1100 Triumph and a few other bikes all 1100cc or more. I weigh 190 lbs. The C50 keeps up with all the other bikes just fine but may require a shift or two extra on back roads when driving slow. The bike will do well over 100mph and is steady on the Interstate as well as back roads. Very good ride that looks like a big bike. It also gets an excess of 50 mpg. Good luck.

Oh now I see where I made that comment - or why rather. It wasn't to the OP, it was to someone else that said they have no problem and said "does 95 just fine" I asked if that was a highway # or a speed?

Then the next person said that I should consider a scooter because somehow perhaps indicating that I wasn't a true rider if I didn't do 80+ - well sorrrrrrryyyy - but I want to ride, not speed, I want to enjoy the ride and get there safe and uh - so how is a Harley being "arrogant" because YOU have to get on his butt that you almost got him in your front bumper???? SLOW down! You have no right tailgating anyone - someone tailgates me - car or bike and I AM damn sure holding my speed - go around me that's fine - but do not push your need for speed (and stupidity) off on me ok ??

I ride with some people, or I used to, in a group, that were always bragging on how they did this trip in so many minutes or this one in so many hours, clearly indicating that they were going over 85 - 95 to do that. All I do is roll my eyes and think well rah rah for you. What's the point? Seriously! What is someone trying to prove by going that fast? Then you said that you put no one else in harms way because no one else is on the road yet in the next breath you say that you almost got a Harley up your front bumper.

Which is it???

As I said - stay the hell away from me if you want to do that kind of speed. I started riding to relax, to enjoy the mountains and scenery not to ride so hard that I am having to totally push myself and my bike to the point that I cant enjoy the actual ride.

I made the comment about the 80+ and obviously someone changed the original post - if it hadn't been there in the first place I couldn't have commented on it.

Not sure where anyone got the idea where she was driving 80 plus as the question was would the 800 cc bike be as strong as the 1100 cc. To answer the question, I'm sure the 800 cc bike won't disappoint you. Kim

I'd hate to ride with you. While riding fast and riding safe are two different thing, Have you ever been to Texas? TRY not going 80+ with no traffic and nothing but road ahead. Or better yet, buy a scooter. When I ride quickly on an empty road, I am putting no one but myself in harms way. And I accept that. I live in Georgia and I DON'T carve up in the mountains because that is dangerous for everyone involved. I almost got a Harley in my front bumper last time I was driving up there due to some arrogant cruiser pilot that couldn't hold his line.

OFF SUBJECT

To the point. Get the 800, you won't be sorry.

Uh may I ask why the heck you would do 95 on the bike? Is that a highway number or the MPH? If its 95 MPH then sorry be sure and let us all know where you are riding because I want to be nowhere near you!

That's just flat out stupid sorry and dangerous.

800 Will Fly Too

My Vulcan 800 just returned from a 2300 mile trip. Does 95 just fine. Not so great in a West Texas headwind, but other than that, it does anything I ask it too!
