5'2 & 140lb and Looking at a Honda Shadow for 1st Bike

by Raven

Hello ladies!

I'm so glad I found this site! As my title says I'm pretty tiny and I'm looking a what seems like a "big" bike for me. At least that's what it feels like to me. At first I was looking at a Honda Rebel. As I started to read more about it, I got some concerns. Like it doesn't have enough power on the highways and that it becomes wobbly when a semi truck would pass by. The semi I can understand. I'm worried about the power. I want to be able to go on long trips to the beach and mountains. I'm just afraid that it won't have enough. That's what brought me to the Shadow. It seems to have pretty much everything that I want in the Rebel but with more power. What I would like to know is am I on the right track with this? Or am I just getting over my head?

I look forward to hearing from everyone!

Raven

Really happy with mine.
by: Dawn

I have a Honda Shadow 600 cc. Am slightly bigger than you 5'3 and 150 ish. And this was the best bike for me. I have knee problems so I really didn't feel comfortable on the sport bikes, I needed to be able to stretch out my one leg not curl it back. Anyway, this will be my 6th riding season and I've had NO problems at all with this bike. It's powerful enough to go 70 on the freeway, it does sound a little buzzy at that speed but handles great. I can keep up with the "Harley Boys" (my hubby and his friend) with no problems. Handles good on the curvs and gets great gas mileage. I can reach the ground flat footed even with flat shoes, so it's stable at a stop. Felt a little top heavy at first, but got used to it after a couple longer rides.

I've been really happy with mine. It fit me.

V-star 650 classic is my first bike and I really enjoy it, the size works the weight is not to heavy and the ride is balanced.

Honda Shadow
by: bikermama

i am 5'5" and 150 lbs. I started on a Honda Shadow 600 and loved it. I still have it and ride it constantly. it fit me perfectly, rides smooth and has enough power to keep up with my husband and friends on their bigger bikes. I cant say for sure if it's right for you, but I love mine and think I chose perfectly when I was looking for my first bike. Good luck!

5'2
by: Julie

Hey, I am 5'2 and close to the weight. I started on a Honda Shadow and for me it was a terrible experience. Being the bike was older, I had issues with the clutch and balancing the bike. It was such a stretch for me and learning; when I did stall I would fall over. That was my experience. I ride a 250 Ninja ZZR and am stepping up next week to a 600 ZZR. Sit on as many bikes as you can. You may luv the Shadow and it may work for you. Good luck!!

PS. Smaller bikes you do feel it on the highway but they can motor:) Julie
