2008 Kawi Vulcan and 2006 Spirit

Greetings,

I know this is supposed to be a site by women for women, I think that's awesome by the way, but I am trying to convince my wife to switch from her Kymco Downtown 300i scooter to an actual bike. If I am able to talk her into test riding some bikes I want her to enjoy the ride. What do you recommend? A bike as nice as your BMW is out of our price range at the moment. So probably would be looking at a used "Jap bike" as people used to say. Thank you.

from Scooter to Bike

If your wife is now riding a scototer, I will assume she has the skills and won't recommend anything so small that she will out grow too soon. I can recommend the Kawasaki Vulcan or a Suzuki Bouvard 650. Both Bikes are very nice and not to pricey. You will also be able to find one used too as they have been around for awhile. Good luck to you and your lady and good riding.

Suzuki gladius
by: Anonymous

I recommend if you are going to consider a sport bike, you have a look at the 650 Gladius. It's the poor mans version of the BMW's. The Gladius is considered a 'naked' bike, because it doesn't have a front cowling, and is a cross between a rocket, and an enduro type bike. The Gladius is super fast on the take off, so warn her not to ride it like a cruiser, don't give it throttle on takeoff, or she will lose control. I'm 5'2" , with a small frame, and I can handle the Gladius. It's light, nimble, and you sit in an upright position as opposed to the rocket style. The Gladius is affordable as well. I paid 7k.

Hope this input helps.

Cheers,
Eleanor

Boulevard vs Vulcan
by: Anonymous

Last year hubby dropped by Boulevard C50 so I replaced it with a Kawi Vulcan 900. Love it, love it, love it. It took about 2 rides to get over being mad at hubby for messing up the Boulevard. The Vulcan is such a better bike in my opinion.

Kawi Vulvan
by: Barb

Before I owned my BMW, (which I LOVE), I rode a Suzuki Boulevard S50. Great bike, 800cc, 4 cylinder, great power, low center of gravity, great confidence builder. I rode it to Outer Banks, NC, I'm located in PA, but I have to say, I was glad to get away from the cruisers, tough on the back. If she likes the cruiser style, the Honda Shadow is a nice size, 750. Anyway, good luck convincing her!!

Kawasaki Vulcan S
by: Angie

I just "down-graded" from a Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 to a Vulcan S, which is a darling little cruiser with a 650 sport bike motor in it. Perfect for a first bike. I was anxious that it would be a step down for me after riding my 1700, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. They're new this year, so you won't be able to find a used one for a bit, but price range is about $7000 new. Good luck!
