2004 Suzuki Savage 650 vs 2011 Kawasaki Ninja 250r Speical Edition

by Carolynn
(Cincinnati)

I'm scheduled to take my motorcycle classes in April. I have the opportunity to purchase either a 2004 Suzuki Savage 650 or a 2011 Kawasaki Ninja 250r Special Edition and I'm beyond perplexed in which would be the better bike for me a beginner. I'm very interseted in hearing the voice of the ppl to assist me in making my decision:) On a side note: I'M SO GLAD I FOUND THIS PAGE, I LOVE IT!!!!!

i've got a savage
by: Dawn

I've got a Savage (1986) and I still love it. I'm 5'3" and can touch the ground. Its easy to control and still has enough power to keep up with the "big boys" The Ninja might be easier maintenance, and looks like its built for speed... IDK. I prefer the body style on the Savage and that its lower to the ground. I would suggest testing out both before buying either.

I still ride my Szuki Savage 650LS
by: Jo-Anne

Ihave only been riding for 2 years now, and I could not have had a greater bike to ride during this time, it is light and yet it can keep up with the larger bikes I ride with. I can not speak for the Kawasaki but I love my Savage.

Savage
by: Pam

I ride a Suzuki Savage. It is my re-learning bike after many years not riding. I prefer the cruiser type bike because of the upright riding position. I love my Savage. Light but has plenty of power. I can't say anything about the Ninja because I haven't ridden one. Sit on them both and decide which bike you will be most comfortable on. Good luck!

Starter Bike
by: Leslie

I bought a 650 Savage as my starter bike 10 years ago. It was a great bike for a beginner. Light enough for a woman to maneuver yet it had enough power to get up the hills in the Mountains of Colorado. Because it's a single cylinder, it vibrates a lot, but you won't own it forever. You'll upgrade quickly if you ride a lot. I had it for 2 months and then felt comfortable enough to upgrade to a BMW R1200C. My Savage was subsequently used by two of my friends as their starter bikes before it was sold, for the same price I sold it to my friend, to some young guy who was looking to start riding. I don't know anything about the Ninja, but the Savage was awesome. One of my friends even rode it on our 10 day trip from Colorado to the Grand Canyon and back. Go for it!
