! Am Extremely Short and Young Plz Help!

by Raysa Ruiz
(Sunrise, FL)

I am about 5'1 ft, 107 pounds. When my parents offered me a car for my seventeenth birthday I said no, I want a bike. My father smiled while my mother pitched a fit. I know absolutely nothing about motorcycles and I have a lot of questions about models, prices, insurance, motorcycle license etc. It’s be really nice to have some answers because every site I come across are written in such a way that only an experience rider can understand. My biggest concern is not being able to find a bike to fit my body type because I am so tiny. PLEASE HELP!

I'm Even Shorter
by: SHELLY

I am 4'10 weigh 97lbs. Please do yourself a favor and take a motorcycle safety course they are fun and you learn a lot.

I started on a Honda Rebel 250 and was looking for a Harley when I came across my Honda VLX 600. I still want a Harley, but I can't reach the kickstand on them. The 883 and 1200 are not a bad fit other than, that kickstand which I have a dealer working on for me. He is checking with a company that lowers bikes to see if they can fix the kickstand problem. I must have tried out 30 bikes before I found my 600. Don't just say oh this one will do, make sure you are comfortable. Check into lowering kits, pull back risers, and reach seats. Plus always keep track of how much fuel you have so you are not having to switch to reserve while riding, it is just easier and safer.

There is One for You
by: isis4012

Hi, I'm 5'2.5, 120#. I have a Suzuki Katana 600 and it fits me fine. I also tried out a Honda F4i in the sport bike category and it was ok. Harley makes a beautiful Dyna low rider that is great for shorties but a lot of cash. If you like the idea of chrome check out Harley's RIDE FREE promo. You can get a sportster and trade it in for another if you want and get the full MSRP toward a new one next year.

You can go to a Harley shop and talk to the salespeople. I have found them welcoming to chicks. I resd a lot of websites to familiarize myself with the new language

Good luck!

Too Short

I agree with the last comment , but also I think you'll get frustrated with a 250, as you won't have the power to keep up with friends. The bike will be too light to do any amount of highway riding, big trucks equal big wind. I agree about the sitting on one, but also you can have a bike lowered. I have a friend that has a 77 Sporster, and my ole man just dropped it two inches, not sure if she's much more that 4'8". Sporties are tall bikes anyway. Please do take the riding course, you'll have a better idea about what would work for you when you have the skills. You need to figure out what kind of riding you'll be doing. Long distances, or short rides on country roads, or a bit of both.

Experience and some confidence will help you to find the right bike. I have a few very short friends, who have large 1500cc bikes and they love them. So take your time and take the course. Good luck to you sista, and pursue your dream of taking to the road on a scoot.

Short and Young

Also please take the safety course. That goes a long way in giving you confidence and it is geared toward the new beginner as well. Don't rush out and buy the first bike you can find. Take your time, sit on them and try to stand them up. Make sure the bike is a perfect fit, cause if you are not comfortable then you won't feel as confident either. Good luck!

Finding a Bike to Fit You
by: Brycie

Hey girl. The best way is to go to various dealerships and ask to sit on each bike, try to raise the bike up to an upright position and check your feet to see if they both are flat on the ground or if you have to stand tippy toed on one foot or both feet. If you have stand with your toes on both feet the bike is too big.

You might want to check a Honda Rebel motorcycle. It is small and easy to handle for some one that is just over 5'. Any other make of bike just tell them that you want to check out their 250cc sized bikes.

Hope this helps you.
